My First YouTube Upload: Starting Without a Plan
🎥 My First YouTube Upload: Starting Without a Plan
“I didn’t have a script, a ring light, or a strategy. I just had a Samsung Corby 1, a crappy laptop, and the courage to start.”
🚀 The Moment I Hit Upload
I still remember the day I uploaded my first YouTube video.
No intro music. No editing software tutorials. No niche. Just me, a shaky clip from my Samsung Corby 1, edited on a slow, outdated laptop, and the belief that I had something worth sharing.
I didn’t know about content strategy, audience targeting, or video SEO. I didn’t even know if anyone would watch. But I knew one thing: I had to begin somewhere.
💡 Why I Started Without a Plan
At the time, I was juggling college, side hustles, and financial pressure. I was selling fruit shakes under my brand YELO CUP, learning inventory management, and helping my family navigate tuition deadlines.
YouTube wasn’t a business idea—it was a creative outlet.
A place to share, to document, and maybe, just maybe, to grow.
My first few videos were about side hustles—what I was doing, what I was learning, and how I was trying to earn while studying. I didn’t have a content calendar or a monetization goal. I just wanted to speak.
📚 What I Learned from That First Upload
Even without a plan, that first video taught me:
1. Action Beats Perfection
Waiting for the “perfect setup” delays growth. Starting messy is better than not starting at all.
2. Content Is a Skill
I didn’t know how to talk to the camera or structure a video. But each upload helped me improve.
3. Consistency Builds Confidence
Even when views were low, I kept showing up. And that built my voice.
4. Resourcefulness Matters
Using a basic phone and a slow laptop taught me how to work with what I had—a mindset that still helps me today.

📝 Final Thoughts
If you’re thinking about starting a YouTube channel, here’s my advice:
Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the perfect niche, or the perfect moment.
Just start.
Your first video won’t be perfect—but it will be powerful. Because it’s the one that gets you moving.
